World auto giant Daimler Corporation is strengthening its presence in India.

So, recently a new automaker under the BharatBenz brand appeared in this country.

The Oragadam-based joint venture manufacture a full range of trucks ranging from 6 to 49 tons for the Indian market.

In 2012, the launch of a new venture Daimler India Commercial Vehicles Pvt. was announced at the Auto Expo in New Delhi at the plant in Oragadam, near Chennai.

The company has already invested 44 billion rupees (US $827 million) in production and aims to reach 90% localization by the end of the year (against the current 85%).

The annual capacity of the plant will be 36,000 truck units and can be increased to 70,000 truck units per year.

In total, 18 models for various purposes with a gross weight of 9.6 to 32 tons will be presented on the market.

The designation of the models is identical to the Mercedes one: the first digit in the index indicates the gross weight in tons, the last and penultimate - the power index in hp. divided by 10.

The line of light trucks BharatBenz 914 (3 wheelbase options) and BharatBenz 1214 (2 wheelbase options) are offered with three types of onboard bodies that differ in height: high side, fixed side, drop side.

The heavy truck line BharatBenz 2523 (6x4) and 3123 (8x4) with a lifting 2nd axle is presented in two base versions with two types of bodies: high side and fixed side.

Construction dump trucks BharatBenz 1217 (4x2), 2523 (6x4) and 3128 (8x4) are equipped with bodies with rear unloading with a capacity of 6.5; 16 and 18 m3.

The top of the lineup is the BharatBenz 4928 truck tractors with 6x2 and 6x4 wheel formulas for operation as part of road trains with a gross weight of 49 tons.

In the future, it is planned to expand the range with Mitsubishi Fuso Canter light and medium duty trucks.
